Williams Wins State Championship – Bulldogs Finish 8th at State Finals
LAKELAND, FL – The Flagler Palm Coast girls weightlifting team closed its season with an outstanding performance at the FHSAA 3A State Championships held Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, highlighted by a historic showing from junior Nya Williams and a strong overall team finish.
Behind Williams’ dominant performance, Flagler Palm Coast High School placed eighth as a team in both the Olympic and Traditional divisions, marking one of the program’s strongest combined finishes at the state meet.
Williams delivered one of the most impressive performances of the entire championship. Competing in the 119-pound weight class, she captured individual state titles in both Olympic and Traditional weightlifting while also being named the ‘Top Lifter of the Meet’ across all weight classes.
She recorded identical 365-pound totals in both disciplines, posting a 155-pound snatch and 210-pound clean and jerk in Olympic competition, and a 155-pound bench press with a 210-pound clean and jerk in Traditional. Her 210-pound clean and jerk tied a state record, highlighting one of the meet’s top individual performances.
Williams’ effort led a Bulldog squad that qualified five lifters for the state stage and demonstrated notable toughness throughout the competition. At 139 pounds, Lily Ames placed 14th in Olympic and 11th in Traditional while battling illness, still managing an impressive 300-pound Traditional total. Brianna Long also competed while sick and finished 19th in the Traditional division at 169 pounds.
“Lily still had a 300-pound total,” FPC coach Duane Hagstrom said. “She toughed it out. Same thing with Bri. They both stepped up despite how they were feeling and did the best they could.”
Additional Bulldog state qualifiers included Alexcia Lilavois, who placed 18th in Olympic at 101 pounds, and Aaradhan Moluguri, who finished 11th in Olympic at 119 pounds while setting a new personal record with a 110-pound snatch.
