Bulldogs Dominate at Iron War on I-4 Invitational

The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs returned home with hardware after an outstanding performance at the Iron War on I-4 Invitational on Saturday, February 28th, held at Lake Gibson High School. FPC captured both the Olympic and Traditional titles, scoring 78 points in Olympic lifting and 60 points in Traditional lifting, solidifying their place as one of Florida’s top boys weightlifting programs this season.

Olympic Highlights

The Bulldogs showcased strength and depth across every weight class:

  • 119 lbs: Senior Anthony Giacobbe posted a 145 lb snatch and 170 lb clean & jerk for 315 total, earning 7 points. Teammate Logan Iacovelli totaled 200 lb snatch / 115 lb clean & jerk = 200 total, scoring 3 points.

  • 129 lbs: Cody Strawser totaled 200/255 = 455, scoring 7 points.

  • 139 lbs: Alex Huynh totaled 185/235 = 420, scoring 7 points, while teammate Memphis Hambly totaled 130/180 = 310, scoring 3 points.

  • 154 lbs: Chris Lightsey totaled 155/210 = 365 for 4 points, with Aidan Bull totaling 155/190 = 345 for 3 points.

  • 169 lbs: Jackson Fedun totaled 220/285 = 505, scoring 7 points.

  • 183 lbs: Landon Gates totaled 225/225 = 450, scoring 5 points.

  • 199 lbs: Marlon Alvarado totaled 195/270 = 465, scoring 5 points.

  • 219 lbs: Tyler Davidson totaled 195/225 = 420, and Gavin Battaglia totaled 190/215 = 405, combining for 5 team points.

  • 238 lbs: Joseph Casanova totaled 200/290 = 490, scoring 7 points.

  • Unlimited: Matthew McFall totaled 285/300 = 585, scoring 7 points, while teammate Wendell Weaver totaled 225/275 = 500, adding 5 points.

Traditional Highlights

The Bulldogs also claimed the Traditional weightlifting title with 60 points, highlighted by multiple podium finishes:

  • 119 lbs: Anthony Giacobbe totaled 170 Clean & Jerk / 170 Bench = 340, scoring 5 points.

  • 129 lbs: Cody Strawser totaled 255/225 = 480, scoring 7 points.

  • 139 lbs: Alex Huynh totaled 235/180 = 415, scoring 7 points, while Memphis Hambly totaled 180/170 = 350, scoring 2 points.

  • 154 lbs: Chris Lightsey totaled 210/215 = 425, scoring 4 points, and Aidan Bull totaled 190/205 = 395, scoring 3 points.

  • 169 lbs: Jackson Fedun totaled 285/250 = 535, scoring 5 points.

  • 183 lbs: Devin Jacobs totaled 270/260 = 530, scoring 5 points.

  • 199 lbs: Mathias Parker totaled 220/285 = 505, scoring 3 points, and Marlon Alvarado totaled 270/225 = 495, scoring 2 points.

  • 219 lbs: Gavin Battaglia totaled 215/245 = 460, scoring 1 point.

  • 238 lbs: Joseph Casanova totaled 290/290 = 580, scoring 7 points.

  • Unlimited: Matthew McFall totaled 300/350 = 650, scoring 7 points, while Wendell Weaver totaled 275/325 = 600, scoring 5 points.

Bulldogs’ Dominance on Display

With top finishes in nearly every weight class across both Olympic and Traditional events, the Bulldogs demonstrated remarkable depth, consistency, and championship-level skill. Multiple athletes contributed crucial points, ensuring FPC brought home both team titles from Lake Gibson.
