Bulldogs Dominate in 38-7 District Victory
PALM COAST (FPCSports.com) – The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs turned in a impressive performance Friday night, rolling past University (Orange City) 38-7 in a dominant home district win. It was the first time the Bulldogs played in front of their home crowd inside Sal Campanella Stadium in nearly a month, and the big crowd endured late afternoon showers and a 30 minute weather delay at the beginning of the game.
From the opening kickoff, FPC wasted no time seizing momentum putting up 14 points in the first quarter and matching that total again in the second to take a commanding 28-7 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs tacked on 10 more points in the third quarter enroute to a cruise to the finish.
Senior quarterback LaDarius Simmons led the charge through the air, completing 10 of 14 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Bobby Starr added another explosive passing score, connecting on a 71-yard strike to Brian Gunter, who finished the night with three receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown.
On the ground, junior Ehimen Ajede powered the Bulldog rushing attack with 95 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, averaging nearly 12 yards per carry. Simmons added 68 rushing yards and a score of his own, while Darwin Harris contributed 48 yards on 11 carries. Sophomore Nolan Caliendo showcased his versatility with 115 receiving yards on seven catches, while also tossing a 45-yard touchdown on a trick play that caught the Titans off guard.
The Bulldog defense was relentless, holding University scoreless after the first quarter and forcing multiple turnovers. Senior Dwayne Webb anchored the unit with 11 total tackles, while Jacob Harnisch and Zaiden Greene each recorded sacks. Junior Brian Jenkins had a key fumble recovery that set up scoring chances, and senior Kenneth Robinson grabbed an interception to stall a University drive.
Special teams were perfect as well, with junior Garrett Tucker going 5-for-5 on extra points and added a 35 yard field goal.
With the win, FPC improved to 2-3 on the season and a 1-0 rec0rd in District 2-7A. The Bulldogs will look to carry this momentum into next week’s matchup as they are back at home inside Sal Campanella Stadium taking on the Fletcher Senators at 7:00pm.
